How to Use FaceTime with Non-Apple Users: Is It Possible?
FaceTime is a video and audio calling service that is exclusive to Apple devices, meaning it is typically used among iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other Apple devices. However, as of iOS 15 and later, Apple has made it possible to invite non-Apple users to join FaceTime calls via a web link.
Here’s how you can use FaceTime with non-Apple users:
1. Create a FaceTime Link (on an Apple device)
- Open the FaceTime app on your Apple device.
- Tap on “Create Link” (you’ll find it at the top of the screen).
- Choose your preferred settings for the call (you can specify the name or time if desired).
- Share the link: You can share the link via email, messaging apps, or even copy the link and send it to anyone, including non-Apple users.
2. Join the FaceTime Call via Web Browser (for non-Apple users)
- The person on the receiving end (the non-Apple user) will need to open the FaceTime link you’ve sent using a web browser (like Safari, Chrome, or Edge) on their phone or computer.
- Once they open the link, they’ll be prompted to enter their name before joining the call.
- They’ll be placed in a “waiting room” until you approve their entry.
3. Answer the Call
- You, as the Apple user, can accept the call when the non-Apple user is ready, just like a regular FaceTime call.
Things to Keep in Mind:
- Supported browsers: Non-Apple users must use a modern web browser (like Safari, Chrome, or Edge).
- No FaceTime app for non-Apple users: Non-Apple users can’t make FaceTime calls or initiate FaceTime sessions; they can only join those created by Apple users.
- Limitations: Some features of FaceTime, such as certain filters or effects, may not be available to non-Apple users.
By using this method, you can now connect with family, friends, or colleagues who do not own Apple devices, giving you more flexibility in your video calls!
